This animated film was a co-production between Lisbet Gabrielsson AB (Sweden), A Man and Ink (Ireland) and Bullitt Film (Denmark). It was written and directed by the Swedish graphic novelist Joanna Rubin Dranger. Galway-based studio A Man and Ink produced most of the animation for the project under the supervision of Jeremy Purcell. Barry O'Donoghue from Barley Films was the Irish Executive Producer on the project for the Irish co-producer.

The film premiered at the Annecy Film Festival in France in June 2010 where it won the FIPRESCI Award. It was funded by The Irish Film Board, the Danish Film Fund and the Swedish Film Institute.

Directed by Tomm Moore with co-direction by Nora Twomey this animated feature film was a co-production between The Cartoon Saloon (Ireland), Les Armateurs (France) and Vivi Film (Belgium). Barry worked as a production advisor for the Irish co-producer Cartoon Saloon. The film was released in France, Belgium and Ireland in early 2009.

It has been widely screened at international film festivals, winning several awards, and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 37th ASIFA-Hollywood Annie Awards (USA) and Best Animated Feature at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards in Hollywood.
